It uses the great circle formulato compute the travel mileage. I suspect i caught flu on this flight as i could hear someone coughing a few rows back and ended up with flu a few days later. Also tiresome to have to watch movies on my device by holding up smartphone screen, would have liked to have in seat display. I had a wonderful experience flying with delta. The gentleman taking care of us on our flight was so nice, accommodating, and attentive. He always was smiling and giving pins to the kids which made me smile.
The flight was quick too and without turbulence. Thank you for the great flying experience. I liked the piloting of the aircraft. Very disappointed about lack of electrical ports.
I paid extra to have more legroom and it is definitely worth it for a six hour flight. I would’ve paid for a decent dinner, but they didn’t offer anything but a snack box —not good for six hours. For American I always have to connect from the end of terminal E to the end of terminal B and the stupid moving walkways are always broken.

But the TikTok ban reflects widespread concerns from lawmakers about China. Members of the state Senate, where Republicans also hold a narrow majority, voted last week in favor of a motion to introduce a bill that would repeal the abortion ban. It would also bar the state from restricting abortion care in situations in which the health or life of the pregnant person is at risk after the point of viability, according to the treating health care professional. "It breaks my heart that you're here to witness this," said House Speaker Pro Tempore Travis Grantham, before casting a "no" vote. "I'm proud of my Republican caucus that has fought this off as long as it has," added Grantham, who accused Democrats of having used the issue as a political cudgel. But Republicans in the Arizona state House, where the party holds a narrow majority, had remained steadfast in not allowing a repeal bill to advance. The members-only club will open Little House West Hollywood at 8465 Holloway Dr., formerly home to the Palihouse hotel, early next year. The new spot will include 34 bedrooms, a lounge, office spaces and a restaurant.

At times, the writing is so bleak that you might think Koontz despairs of the human race. He spends paragraphs disparaging those in power who serve government in their quest for even more power and don’t care about truth or justice. He also has nothing but contempt for those who are amoral because of either a defect in their makeup or extremely poor parenting (by the rich or the poor). After some recent forays into pure science fiction and otherworldly subject matter, it is refreshing to see Koontz take a page out of his old and highly successful blueprint and bring us a novel that easily can stack up against his earlier work. House tour: Architectural homes in Los Angeles
Rudolf Schindler, a protégé of Wright’s, was the overseeing architect on this project (unusual for Wright, who typically was on-site for all of his buildings) and by all reports it was a contentious building process, with the same delays and cost overruns familiar to anyone who’s attempted construction. The decision by House Republicans to include TikTok as part of a larger foreign aid package, a priority for President Joe Biden with broad congressional support for Ukraine and Israel, fast-tracked the ban after an earlier version had stalled in the Senate. A standalone bill with a shorter, six-month selling deadline passed the House in March by an overwhelming bipartisan vote as both Democrats and Republicans voiced national security concerns about the app’s owner, the Chinese technology firm ByteDance Ltd.
That behind-the-scenes conversation — involving officials from the Secret Service and other relevant law enforcement agencies — focused only on how to move and protect Mr. Trump if the judge were to order him briefly jailed for contempt in a courthouse holding cell, the people said. Despite the continued repeal efforts, voters are likely to have the power this November to decide on the future of abortion rights in the state themselves. Just last week, during the state House's prior session, Democrats in the chamber introduced a bill to repeal the 160-year-old abortion ban and filed a motion to Republican House leaders requesting an immediate vote. The vote failed, prompting Democrats to move again to force a vote, which also fell short. The state House's vote to repeal came on the chamber's third attempt since the state Supreme Court ruled earlier this month to uphold the 160-year-old near-total ban. Koontz completists will no doubt add this to their collection, but thriller fans either looking for a good scare or a satisfying tale of triumph over evil should look elsewhere. Her frugal, low-tech nature coupled with a non-stop feeling of paranoia will serve her well; it turns out that something is indeed very wrong on her island, and Ringrock is the source of that unease. When even the animals on Jacob’s Ladder begin acting weird, it merely confirms for Katie that her suspicions are quite warranted. Any information you provide will not be used for other commercial purposes and will not be sold, rented, leased or forwarded to any third party. Soon no one on Earth will have a place to hide in this novel about fears known and unknown by #1 New York Times bestselling master of suspense Dean Koontz.
— and ends as a buddy story, with a woman and a teenager on the run, paranoid that they are being hunted for what they know about Ringrock. For her, this is represented by neighboring island Ringrock, which is home to a mysterious government research facility that may be conducting experimental work that is not completely docile. These fears are confirmed when Jacob’s Ladder is infiltrated by two agents who are apparently looking for something that may have “escaped” from Ringrock. In retreat from a devastating loss and crushing injustice, Katie lives alone in a fortresslike stone house on Jacob's Ladder island. The law the conservative-leaning court ruled was enforceable makes abortion a felony punishable by two to five years in prison for anyone who performs one or helps a woman obtain one. The law was codified in 1901 — and again in 1913, after Arizona gained statehood — and outlaws abortion from the moment of conception but includes an exception to save the woman’s life. "To see how this has been turned against one party and used as a weaponization of the issue is disgusting," he said. At the end of Wednesday's hearing, Grantham said the vote was an "awful, disgusting situation" and stripped Gress, as well as Democratic Assistant Minority Leader Oscar De Los Santos, of their committee assignments. The state Senate could vote on the repeal as early as next Wednesday, after the bill comes on the floor for a "third reading," as is required under chamber rules. After a dizzying course of votes throughout the afternoon, three state House Republicans joined Democrats in approving a repeal of the Civil War-era law that made abortion a felony punishable by two to five years in prison for anyone who performs one or helps a woman obtain one.
Doheny’s father was mired in the Teacup Dome Scandal at the time, and the deaths meant that he was excused from testifying; rumors also abounded that Ned, who was married with children, was trying to cover up a same-sex affair. Either way, a tour of this 55-room Tudor estate is a good way to get a glimpse into the lives of LA’s historical 1%—costly slate clads the façade and walkways, the windows are leaded glass and guests were entertained in the bowling alley and two movie theaters. When the home was finished in 1929, it cost a reported $3M, making it the most expensive private home in the city at the time. Where would we be without those energetic civic boosters that built Los Angeles?
In tow, and the three of them are able to start new lives together, forming a family that heals both Katie and Libby. A storm rolls in, bringing with it Libby, a 14-year-old girl from a nearby island. Moloch, an extraterrestrial creature that was being studied on Ringrock, has escaped and threatens all life if it travels far. Libby’s neglectful parents were scientists on Ringrock and have already been killed by Moloch. Libby and Katie create a tentative alliance and plan to leave the area before a nuclear bomb kills all life at Ringrock and the surrounding islands.
However you decide to experience it, don’t miss the remarkable zig-zag staircase, a joyous element that adds a bit of fun to the perfection of the house. Legislation that could ban TikTok if its China-based owner doesn’t sell its stake has won a major boost as House Republicans included it in a package of bills that would send U.S. aid to Ukraine and Israel. Organizers in the state are likely to succeed in placing a proposed constitutional amendment on the November ballot that would create a “fundamental right” to receive abortion care up until fetal viability, or about the 24th week of pregnancy.
New House Speaker Mike Johnson Holds Extreme Views on Climate Change and Science - Sierra Club
New House Speaker Mike Johnson Holds Extreme Views on Climate Change and Science.
Dean Koontz is a complex writer, and so are his books, featuring the best of humanity as well as the worst. In THE HOUSE AT THE END OF THE WORLD, he continues his much-repeated theme of a valiant individual fighting against the government and/or a science experiment gone awry. Here we meet a woman, Katie, who has retreated from society because of a horrific wrong done to her.
A grandmother (like me) might wonder what kind of grandmothers Koontz meets in his California home. Most of the ones I know (also like me) have never worn a pink jumpsuit and have no idea where or why anyone would wear a housedress. Yet we can't accuse him of misogyny because, as in this story, many of his heroes are female and show more bravery and heroism than your typical male character. It is at this point that THE HOUSE AT THE END OF THE WORLD really begins to soar and never comes down to earth again. It calls to mind some of the novels that Koontz penned as a fledgling writer --- mostly sci-fi works composed under various pseudonyms or his original nom de plume, Dean R. Koontz. Similar plot devices can be found in such Koontz titles as WATCHERS, THE SERVANTS OF TWILIGHT and LIGHTNING.
But the ferocity of the pushback angered lawmakers on Capitol Hill, where there is broad concern about Chinese threats to the U.S. and where few members use the platform themselves. Last week, as a result of the prosecution’s request, officials with federal, state and city agencies had an impromptu meeting about how to handle the situation, according to two people with knowledge of the matter. That would be the challenge if Donald J. Trump — whom the agency is required by law to protect around the clock — is convicted at his criminal trial in Manhattan and sentenced to serve time. Some prominent anti-abortion groups called on Republicans to unite behind that law, which was enacted in 2022, following Wednesday’s vote.
Since mid-March, TikTok has spent $5 million on TV ads opposing the legislation, according to AdImpact, an advertising tracking firm. The ads have included a range of content creators, including a nun, extolling the positive impacts of the platform on their lives and arguing a ban would trample on the First Amendment. The company has also encouraged its users to contact Congress, and some lawmakers have received profanity-laced calls. During a brief state House Rules committee hearing Wednesday, Republicans voted to advance three resolutions — without explaining what they were — that Democrats and abortion rights supporters said were likely the GOP-backed ballot measures. Wednesday’s proceedings marked the latest chapter in the fight over abortion rights in the crucial battleground following the Arizona Supreme Court’s bombshell ruling earlier this month. The society that runs it certainly wants us to think so—haunted house tours and a popular interactive play capitalize on the 1929 scandal in which the owner of the mansion, oil heir Ned Doheny, died in a mysterious murder-suicide with his boyhood friend and employee.
While Koontz's prose isn't for the faint of heart, there are places where his humor and sense of delight shine through. Journeying away from the island, Katie and her companion, teenager Libby, must stay offline. The beauty of empty spaces and roads leading into them completely befuddles most people, but (as I was delighted to learn) not Koontz.
After helping a client tweak her complaint in the morning, they attended her emergency order hearing in the afternoon. From course-specific craft cocktails and local drafts to zero-proof drinks and glasses of bubbly, there’s something for everyone at our robust bars. Over spring break, UNC School of Law students had the opportunity to make a meaningful impact through a pro bono trip to Charlotte, North Carolina. Meghan Moran, director of pro bono initiatives at Carolina Law, led the trip along with Kaitlyn Parker, senior director of student engagement. The group of eight students partnered with Safe Alliance, the domestic violence agency in Mecklenburg County, to assist with their Victim Assistance Court Program. The other 9-hole course named The Library is themed as an academic type space with red carpets. I think if both courses were as easy as the Conservatory, Puttery wouldn’t get as good reviews.
This course gives you a challenge and keeps things interesting. I bet there’s a photo booth on this course also but we must have missed it. Overall we were both really impressed with the quality of the courses and holes. They weren’t as short as some of the other indoor putt putt places I’ve been to, and they had a decent amount of obstacles and challenging elements.

This is the oldest standing residence in the city, built by wealthy cattle rancher Francisco Avila, whose extensive 4,439-acre land grant covered much of Beverly Hills and the Miracle Mile district. Though visitors only see about half of the original house, it’s well-preserved with an interesting mix of Spanish, Mission and ranchero influences. There is the dilemma about law enforcement and the military, where we see Katie's former Marine husband --- who is moral and determined to find justice --- alongside corrupt federal agents. Yet we also know the current reality regarding the Marines who participated willingly in the January 6th insurrection and the recent news that an FBI chief was perhaps providing material and traitorously working on behalf of Russia. Koontz points out that irony, in which the worst criminals have access to weapons of death, but so does Katie. It's a conundrum for sure, and that's why you will continue to think about this book and the action long after you've finished reading.

The prolific Charles Fletcher Lummis founded the Southwest Museum, was an editor at the Los Angeles Times, and still managed to design this house (the name of which means “the Sycamore” in Spanish) on the banks of the Arroyo Seco. Its exterior is made almost entirely from river rock and the interior is heavily influenced by Pueblo Indian dwellings. Fans of today’s DIY movement will appreciate the rustic Craftsman charm of this home, which is furnished with hand-crafted wood pieces; it’s interesting to see how closely modern-day bohemian design mirrors that of Lummis House.

The original Neutra VDL Research House, a living laboratory for architect Richard Neutra’s theories on residential design, was built for $8,000 (including the site!) in 1932; it burned down in 1963 and two years later his son oversaw the rebuilding of an updated version. Neutra was something of a control-freak as a designer—he made recommendations to his clients that included the ideal flowers to display, and would occasionally make unannounced visits to see how, exactly, people were living in his homes. Today, this glass-walled paragon of modern design overlooking the Silver Lake Reservoir is an active part of LA’s design community and home to occasional art installations. Each Saturday, students in Cal Poly Pomona’s architecture program lead half-hour tours.

This 1921, Mayan-inflected Frank Lloyd Wright house was originally built as a “progressive theatrical community” space by activist and oil heiress Aline Barnsdall. Today it’s the centerpiece of Barnsdall Park and is open for tours during the park’s popular Friday night wine tasting events.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House passed legislation Saturday that would ban TikTok in the United States if the popular social media platform’s China-based owner doesn’t sell its stake within a year, but don’t expect the app to go away anytime soon. On their third attempt in three weeks, Arizona state House lawmakers voted Wednesday to pass a bill that would repeal the near-total ban on abortion from 1864 that was upheld by the battleground state’s Supreme Court earlier this month. Pasadena may think it owes much of its traditional Arts and Crafts style to Charles and Henry Greene, the brothers and architects responsible for designing many of the city’s landmark buildings, but really, they should be honoring Thomas Greene, the architects’ father.

His administration brokered a deal that would have had U.S. corporations Oracle and Walmart take a large stake in TikTok. The sale never went through for a number of reasons; one was China, which imposed stricter export controls on its technology providers. The company has good reason to think a legal challenge could be successful, having seen some success in previous legal fights over its operations in the U.S.. In November, a federal judge blocked a Montana law that would ban TikTok use across the state after the company and five content creators who use the platform sued. TikTok has lobbied hard against the legislation, pushing the app’s 170 million U.S. users — many of whom are young — to call Congress and voice opposition.
Katie and Libby are still in danger, however, from the government who wants to silence them. They are caught at a country gas station just miles from their safe house destination. However, the malicious agents who catch them mistakenly believe that Katie and Libby cannot protect themselves.
The Historical Society of Southern California is now headquartered here, and it holds several Sunday afternoon programs a year, as well as an annual holiday open house in December. Like the “fusions” that terrify the main characters, Dean Koontz’s new thriller feels not quite fully formed. It starts as a mystery — what sort of dangerous experiments is the U.S. government conducting on an island called Ringrock?
But the TikTok ban reflects widespread concerns from lawmakers about China. Members of the state Senate, where Republicans also hold a narrow majority, voted last week in favor of a motion to introduce a bill that would repeal the abortion ban. Master woodworker Sam Maloof and his carpenters designed and built this lovely, thoughtful home piece by piece in his on-site workshop; no two door openings are the same here, and each joint is a wonder of craftsmanship. A MacArthur Genius Grant recipient, Maloof has had his iconic rocking chairs shown at the Smithsonian; he also designed the chairs that were used on-camera at the history-changing Nixon/Kennedy debates.
If voters approve the ballot measure, it would effectively undo the 1864 ban, which now remains law in the state. The law is set to go into effect as early as June 8, though Democratic Attorney General Kris Mayes has said her office is working to find ways to delay that date. The ban is likely to go into effect for a short period of time — even if the Senate passes it next week and Hobbs signs it shortly thereafter — because under Arizona law, repeals don't go into effect until 90 days after a legislative session concludes.
